Geetuss Syrup is a combination of five medicines: Diphenhydramine, Ammonium Chloride, Terpin Hydrate, Sodium Citrate, and Menthol. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine medication. It blocks the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation, congestion, itching, and other allergic reactions. Ammonium chloride is an expectorant which decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Terpin Hydrate works by decreasing the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Sodium citrate is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Menthol produces a cooling effect on the skin. Menthol dilates the blood vessels causing a sensation of coldness, followed by an analgesic effect. Menthol also acts as a penetration enhancer, increasing the penetration of drugs when applied on the skin, to give a faster onset of action.
